The NSW Government has committed $6.7 million for the development of a new synthetic athletics track at Sydney Academy of Sport, Narrabeen. The project will support users from grassroots to elite across a range of sports.

- A new World Athletics (WA) compliant synthetic athletics track with moisture resilient track surface
- New asphalt sub-base
- Drainage and stormwater system upgrades
- Accessibility improvements

Project update
The Office of Sport, and its appointed contractor have continued to progress construction of the replacement track throughout August with several project milestones achieved or well progressed, including:
- Remediation of the ground under the track well progressed
- Geogrid, membrane and pavement foundation works advanced
- Drainage infrastructure installation continued
- Drainage works through the existing car park have been completed, enabling the temporary reopening of the car park
- Track kerbing and footpath installation commenced
- Asphalt planning and quality assurance activities progressed.
While recent wet weather and challenging ground conditions have impacted the programme and required additional remediation in some areas, mitigation measures are being implemented to support delivery of the project.
Works remain active across the site, with preparations underway for asphalt installation and completion of the remaining track infrastructure.
Over the coming weeks, the contractor will complete the remaining ground improvement works, continue drainage and civil construction activities and prepare the site for installation of the track asphalt surface.
Project handover and completion remain forecast for mid-quarter 4 2026, subject to site and weather conditions.
The Office of Sport will continue to work closely with the contractor to progress activities safely and efficiently with further updates to be provided as milestones are achieved.
