The Cooma Sports Hub has taken another step forward, with Member for Monaro John Barilaro announcing that CK Architecture has been awarded the tender for the design.
The state-of-the-art sporting facility will feature a three-court indoor sport facility at Monaro High School and synthetic athletics track and field facilities at Snowy Oval.
Mr Barilaro said the appointment of the detailed design contractor is a key milestone in the delivery of this important local sporting facility.
“Cooma Sports Hub will be a game changer for the Snowy Monaro region, ensuring families and kids in the local region can play a variety of sporting codes all year round,” Mr Barilaro said.
“This $15 million sporting facility will cater for a range of sports including basketball, athletics, AFL and cricket.
“I know how important local sport is in the Monaro. By building the right facilities we are not only improving the health and wellbeing of our children but helping create future sporting stars and bringing communities together,
“The awarding of the detailed design contract to CK Architecture is great news and I look forward to construction commencing very soon,” Mr Barilaro added.
Minister for Sport Geoff Lee said the NSW Government is delivering on its commitment to improve the quality and quantity of sports infrastructure across NSW.
“Investing in new and existing sports infrastructure is a NSW Government priority. We want to ensure sport is accessible to everyone across the State,” Mr Lee said.
“This project is part of a sports infrastructure construction boom across NSW which is boosting employment and stimulating local economies.”
Snowy Monaro Regional Council Mayor Peter Beer said it was really pleasing to take this next step in a key project for the Snowy Monaro.
“Due to our climate, indoor sports facilities are a necessity. For the community, this new sports hub will provide recreational facilities and enable our local sporting organizations greater opportunities to host regional level carnivals and events,” Mayor Beer said.
