More lifesaving equipment at community sport facilities across NSW

Published: 25 March 2026

The Minns Government is backing safer community sport by delivering new lifesaving equipment to clubs across the state, with more than 190 sporting organisations receiving defibrillators through the NSW Government’s Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program.

The Program provides grants of up to $3,000 to eligible sport and active recreation organisations to purchase automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for use at sports facilities.

Since the Program commenced, more than 2,400 defibrillators have been awarded for use at sport and recreation facilities across NSW.

The Program is part of a major investment by the Minns Labor Government to improve safety at NSW sport and recreation facilities which includes a $150,000 grant to the Heartbeat of Football Foundation to conduct research to identify which sports facilities have AEDs installed.

The findings of the research, which commenced in September 2025, will provide vital insight and guide future government investment in the equipment.

Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said:

“More than 190 clubs are now better equipped with defibrillators, building on over 2,400 delivered across NSW and that’s the Minns Government backing safer community sport.

“When every second counts, this equipment saves lives, ensuring players, volunteers and spectators can step onto the field with confidence and get home safely.”

St Marys Junior Rugby League Club Rugby League Manager Adam Przybyla said:

“Rugby League is a big part of our community at St Marys and the safety of our players, volunteers and supporters is always our number one priority.

“The support provided through the NSW Government’s Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program means our club is better equipped to respond quickly in the event of a medical emergency.

“Having a defibrillator available at our facility provides vital protection and reassurance for everyone who takes the field or attends our games, and we’re grateful for the continued investment in grassroots sport and community safety.”
