What do you do?
I support coaches and athletes to be the best they can be using real-time data, machine learning, computer vision, AI and the latest available tech. Historically, it took days to get all the race analysis back to the coaches from a competition.
Now, with machine learning and AI, we can do part of the analysis using computer intelligence which provides the data in a more timely fashion, with user friendly access and improved visualisations to support and enhance coach’s decision-making process.
What motivates you?
There’s so much potential in sport and swimming has the ability to harness and utilise different technologies and data. I think we’re really just diving in and innovating. Our work in data and analytics has given us the confidence and edge to push boundaries, and we’re not done yet.
There’s always something more to learn, you can always improve.
Why is your work important?
I want swimming to be the Formula 1 of Olympic Sport. The pursuit to be faster will never end.
Even when you think you’ve seen the greatest swimmer of all time, along comes another one. Who knows how fast they can swim? That’s the fun of it—you just never know.
