About Zarlia

“Teaching the next generation a love of sport and the outdoors and life skills”.

Education

  • Certificate IV in Outdoor Leadership

What training have you just completed?

I’ve just gained my Certificate IV in Outdoor Leadership. The program involved on-the-job learning at 10 recreational centres across NSW, alongside theory and field expeditions. I learned how to facilitate groups of all ages and sizes, make activities fun and engaging, maintain group safety and use behaviour management techniques.

I learned a range of recreational activities like bushwalking and canoeing, and the technical skills of these activities. I also learnt how to teach them to others, while experiencing amazing adventures.

What has been the best part of your training?

You get to work outdoors and make a difference in kids’ camp experience. You get to travel around the state and go on incredible adventures, meet new friends, learn new activities and skills, and teach awesome sport and recreation activities.

Why is your work important?

I have found it really empowering because I am able to teach the young people of the next generation life skills that will help them achieve their goals.
