Ministerial media release: Funding to improve safety in NSW shooting clubs

Sixty-nine sporting clubs across the state have been successful in securing funding in the NSW Government’s Safe Shooting Program.

Minister for Sport, Stuart Ayres said $600,000 had been awarded for projects that aim to increase the safety at NSW shooting facilities.

“The Safe Shooting Program provides funding to shooting clubs to increase safety and NSW Firearms Registry compliance,” Mr Ayres said.

“The program also supports clubs to provide educational programs and develop ways to assist participation and access to shooting facilities. 

“The NSW Government is committed to increasing opportunities for the community to safely participate in the sport of shooting.”

The Office of Sport administers the Safe Shooting Program on behalf of the Office for Police, Department of Justice.

Incorporated, community based not-for-profit shooting, hunting and collecting clubs are eligible to apply for grants as well as shooting ranges that are approved and administered by the NSW Firearms Registry.

Funding is provided for the upgrade of firearms capital equipment and/or facilities to comply with work health and safety legislation or as directed by the NSW Firearms Registry. 

Funding is also provided for projects that enable online access as well as small ‘micro-grants’ to assist small clubs and ranges without significant administrative staff for small one-off projects.
