The Combat Sports Authority of NSW grants registration in Combatant, Promoter and Industry Participant classes in accordance with the Combat Sports Act 2013.

Applications for registration classes, including the renewal of registration classes, must be made through the Combat Sports Authority of NSW Combat Sports Registration System.

Access to the Combat Sports Registration System is through Service NSW. You must have a Service NSW account to access the system.

A single account has been created in the Combat Sports Registration System for persons that were registered under the Act through the previous Ringside Online registration system. Your recorded email address has been used to create the account. Your Service NSW email address must match the email address recorded in your Combat Sports Registration System account.

How to - step by step instructions

1.  Access the Combat Sports Registration System

  • You will be requested to log into your Service NSW account to access the system.
  • Your full name and date of birth must be exactly as it appears on the identification documents that accompany your application

2.  Select Apply for Industry Participant and Promoter Classes and commence an application

  • Your full name and date of birth must be exactly as it appears on the identification documents that accompany your application.

3.  Upload the following documents with your application.

  • A passport style photograph in JPG/JPEG format.
  • Certified copies of three (3) types of acceptable proof of identification documents.
    • At least one must be DVS compatible
    • At least one must contain your photograph
    • At least one must contain your signature (unless under 18 years of age)
    • At least one must contain your date of birth
    • Each document must be certified as being a true and accurate copy of the original document by a Justice of the Peace, Legal Practitioner, Public Notary or other acceptable person.
    • Details of acceptable proof of identification documents and persons that may certify the documents is available on the Authority website.
  • A Parent/ Legal Guardian Consent form, in the approved form (applicants under 18 years of age) available on the Authority website.

Applications for Referee, Judge and Timekeeper registration classes must also be accompanied by the following documents:

  • A copy of your proof of qualifications and/or your Endorsement of Skills Statement document, in the approved form, that satisfies the registration requirements of the Authority. Details of Amateur and Professional Referee, Judge and Timekeeper qualification and skills registration requirements, is available on the Authority website.
  • A completed Referee, Judge and Timekeeper examination.
  • A National Police Certificate (containing your national criminal history) issued not more than 6 weeks before the date on which the application is made.
  • A current first aid certificate [HLTAID011 Provide First Aid] - (referee registration class applications only). (Note: Producing false or misleading documents is an offence, serious penalties may apply)


Applications for Trainer and Second registration classes must also be accompanied by the following documents:

  • A completed Trainer and Second examination.
  • A current first aid certificate (HLTAID011 Provide First Aid). (Note: Producing false or misleading documents is an offence, serious penalties may apply)


Applications for Promoter, Manager and Matchmaker registration classes must also be accompanied by the following documents:

  • A completed Promoter examination (Promoter registration class applications)
  • A completed Manager and Matchmaker examination (Manager and Matchmaker class applications)

4.  Select all required registration classes.

  • An application for additional classes and payment of the applicable fee is required if you subsequently need additional classes.
  • You may not apply for, or hold, a Professional Promoter registration class AND a Professional Judge, Referee or Timekeeper registration class for the same style of combat sport.
  • Persons under 18 years of age are not entitled to apply for registration as, or to be registered as, an industry participant of a registration class applicable to a Manager or Matchmaker, or as a Promoter.

5.  Pay the applicable registration class application fee.

  • Promoter, Manager or Matchmaker registration classes: $480
  • Referee, Judge, Timekeeper, Trainer or Second registration classes: $100

6.  Application decision

  • Allow a minimum of 5 working days for referee, judge, timekeeper, trainer or second applications to be considered and registration granted or refused. 
  • All applications for Promoter, Manager and Matchmaker registration classes are referred to the Commissioner of Police for a security determination.  This may take several weeksA decision on whether to grant the registration classes cannot be made until the Combat Sports Authority of NSW is provided the security determination. Promoters must allow sufficient time for the application to be considered. It is an offence to arrange a combat sport contest unless registered in the appropriate promoter class.
  • Incomplete registration applications, including those submitted with invalid or expired documents, cannot be considered and may be refused, or further information and documents requested within a specified timeframe. The application is not considered duly made under the Act until all required information and documents are provided.

1.  Access the Combat Sports Registration System

  • You will be requested to log into your Service NSW account to access the system.

2.  Select Manage my Industry Participant and Promoter Classes.

3.  Select Renew Now.

4. Complete an application

  • Your full name and date of birth must be exactly as it appears on the proof of identification documents that accompany your application.

5.  Upload the following documents with your application

  • A passport style photograph in JPG/JPEG format.
  • Certified copies of three (3) types of acceptable proof of identification documents.
    • At least one must be DVS compatible
    • At least one must contain your photograph
    • At least one must contain your signature (unless under 18 years of age)
    • At least one must contain your date of birth

  • An separate application for additional classes must be made if you require additional industry participant or promoter registration classes.

7.  Application decision

  • If an application for the grant of a renewal of registration is duly made to the Authority before the registration ceases to have effect, the registration is taken to continue in force until the Authority notifies the applicant of a decision to renew the registration or refuse to renew the registration.
  • Applications that are not duly made by the expiry date will be refused and a new application must be made.

Frequently asked questions

You must upload with your application a recent passport style photograph of yourself in JPG/JPEG format.  The photograph must satisfy the following standards.

  • Colour photograph
  • Head and shoulders only
  • Face looking directly at the camera and not tilted in any direction
  • Hair off face so that edges of the face are visible
  • Eyes open and mouth closed
  • Neutral expression (no smiling, laughing or frowning)
  • Clear, focused image with no marks or red eye
  • Plain white or light grey background that contrasts with your face
  • Uniform lighting (no shadows or reflections).

The Authority is moving to an online registration examination system.  In the interim you must contact the Combat Sports team via combatsports@sport.nsw.gov.au to obtain a copy of the relevant registration examination(s). The examination(s) will be sent to your recorded email address.

You must personally undertake and complete the relevant examinations and provide a copy with your registration application in the new Combat Sports Registration System. The examinations must be undertaken and provided when applying for, or renewing, Industry Participant and Promoter registration classes. The Authority has a 100% pass mark for exams.  If incorrect answers are made the examination must be resubmitted.

 

The current Industry Participant and Promoter Examinations are:

  • Promoter Examination
  • Manager and Matchmaker Examination
  • Referee, Judge and Timekeeper Examination
  • Trainer and Second Examination

Registration classes expire three (3) years from the date granted unless sooner cancelled, or the term of registration is extended or reduced under the Act.

You must provide with their application certified copies of three (3) types of acceptable proof of identification documents from the list below. Identification documents do not need to be certified if an acceptable Digital Verification System (DVS) document is provided and a DVS match is returned by the Combat Sports Registration System.

The following are the standard acceptable proof of identification documents for the purpose of the Act and clause 18(d) of the Combat Sports Regulations 2014.

  • Australian Passport (can be expired within the 2 years prior to the date of application, provided an acceptable DVS match is returned by the Combat Sports Registration System)
  • Current Overseas Passport
  • Current Australian Drivers Licence
  • Birth Certificate
  • Citizenship Certificate
  • Medicare / Private Health Insurance Card
  • Government Issued Proof of Age Card
  • Government Issued Identity Card
  • Government Issued Drivers Licence
  • Senior Citizen / Government Concession Card
  • Student Identity Card
  • School enrolment letter with photograph issued by school representative (minors only)
  • Photographic Employee Identity Card
  • Union / Professional Membership Card
  • Utility Account (e.g. electricity, gas, telephone account)
  • Certificate of Marriage or Change of Name
  • Rates Notice
  • Other identification documents accepted by the Combat Sports Authority of NSW as determined from time to time.

The documents must satisfy the following:

  • Each document must be in the list of acceptable proof of identification documents.
  • Each document must be current. Note: some exceptions apply
  • Each document must be certified by an acceptable person listed below as a true and accurate copy of the original document. Note: identification documents do not need to be certified if an acceptable Digital Verification System (DVS) document is provided and a DVS match is returned by the Combat Sports Registration System.
  • At least one document must be DVS compatible.
  • At least one document must contain a photograph.
  • At least one must contain a signature.
  • At least one must contain a date of birth.

 

  1. Access the Combat Sports Registration System
    • You will be requested to log into your Service NSW account to access the system.
  2. Select Replace Registration ID card.
  3. Complete an application.

Note:

  • Replacement registration identity cards will be sent to your recorded postal address within 10 business days of the application.
  • Please ensure your recorded postal address is current.

Conditions imposed on registration classes and Codes of Conduct

Industry Participants and Promoters are advised that they must comply with the conditions imposed on their registration classes under the Combat Sports Act 2013 and the relevant Code of Conduct.
