Swim training

Sydney International Regatta Centre has a 1000m dedicated lane for swim training in the main Competition Lake.

The lane is available to book for open water swim training subject to other events/training happening at the venue and current water quality.

All swim training must take place in the dedicated swim lane.

At least one spotter is required for every 10 swimmers, this can be on a kayak/ski, or walking/bike (helmet must be worn) and must stay within 20m of the swimmer. Spotters must have water rescue qualifications (minimum bronze medallion) and hold a current first aid and resuscitation certificate.

Only those training can enter the water, casual swimming is not permitted at any time.

Throughout the Summer months, local Swim & Triathlon clubs may offer group open water swim training sessions where spotters are provided by volunteers. Contact us for more information on these sessions.

Some major events may provide familiarisation training sessions ahead of their events. These are the only times that swimming outside of the dedicated lane is permitted.

Bathrooms with shower facilities are available on-site. We recommend that you shower after swimming in the lake. Water quality is monitored regularly throughout the season, and swimming is only permitted when the quality is deemed suitable for primary contact.

No access to the water is permitted without a confirmed booking due to safety and venue requirements.

For weekend bookings, please confirm with the venue no later than 12pm the Friday prior.

Swim lane map

The swim lane begins at the Eastern end of the large presentation pontoon located in front of the grandstand. You can enter the water from the pontoon. The lane is from the bank to the first line of buoys. Swimmers are not to go past the lane buoys into the marked lanes. These are for row/paddle training. Rowers and paddlers should not be training within the swim lane. Your spotter should be ensuring the lane is clear and safe for you at all times.
