Come and celebrate Lake Ainsworth’s re-opening

Published: 5 July 2023

The North Coast community is invited to a free Open Day at Lake Ainsworth Sport and Recreation Centre on Sunday, 16 July to celebrate the Centre’s re-opening.

The Centre is back and ready to serve the sport and recreation needs of the Northern Rivers community after operating as a flood recovery centre since February 2022.

There will be a range of activities on offer with sport clinics for rugby league, football, rugby, cricket, dragon boating and wheelchair sports as well as rock climbing, Traditional Indigenous Games and site tours.

Local performer Ben Whiting will also be providing entertainment and there will be food trucks on site.

Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said:

"This open day is a fantastic occasion to showcase all the wonderful opportunities our state’s sport and recreation centres provide to the community.

“I look forward to seeing how people re-engage and enjoy these facilities and surroundings as a place come together to get out and get active.”

Minister for the North Coast Rose Jackson said:

“It was great to see how the state’s sporting infrastructure always puts the needs of the community first.

“While we are celebrating a return to normal operations, we should also celebrate the efforts of the Centre for providing support to the community during the 2022 floods that saw thousands of homes destroyed and people displaced across the state.”

The Community Open Day will run from 10am-4pm at Lake Ainsworth Sport and Recreation Centre, 164 Camp Drewe Rd Lennox Head.
