Motor Vehicle Sports

The Office of Sport issues licences under delegation of the Minister for Sport that authorise the holding of motor vehicle race meetings at grounds prescribed in the licence.

Licences are issued for a period of up to 12 months pursuant to the Motor Vehicle Sports (Public Safety) Act 1985  and the Motor Vehicle Sports (Public Safety) Regulation 2015.

Please contact the Motor Vehicle Sports team at motorsport@sport.nsw.gov.au or 13 13 02 to obtain a copy of the licence application form. Applications must be made to motorsport@sport.nsw.gov.au or Locked Bag 1422 Silverwater NSW 2128 and be accompanied by all required information and supporting documentation outlined in the application form.  

Applicants must allow at least 6 weeks for the application to be assessed and a licence issued or the application refused.

Please Note: The Office of Sport can only consider an application upon receipt of advice that the ground is suitable to be licensed from each sanctioning body recognised by the OoS that is relevant to the licensed ground.

The Office of Sport currently accepts advice for licensing purposes from the following sanctioning bodies:

  • Confederation of Australian Motor Sport Limited, trading as Motorsport Australia
  • Motorcycling NSW Limited
  • National Association of Speedway Racing Pty Ltd
  • Karting (New South Wales) Incorporated
  • Australian Karting Association Ltd
  • Australian National Drag Racing Association Limited
  • IHRA Australia Pty Ltd

 

Licence Renewals 2021-22

Pre-populated licence renewal application forms are sent to holders of licences due to expire. The Office of Sport can only consider an application upon receipt of advice that the ground is suitable to be licensed from each sanctioning body recognised by the OoS that is relevant to the licensed ground.

Motor Sports Events Act 2022

The Office of Sport is the default government coordinating agency under the Motor Sports Events Act 2022 and the Motor Sports Events Regulation 2022 .

The legislation applies to events that require a full track closure of Mount Panorama and the Newcastle 500 Supercars Championship round.

Order Regarding Motor Vehicle Racing at Mt Panorama

On 7 August 2023, the Minister for Sport approved an Order for five events to be held at Mount Panorama between 1 July 2023 and 30 June 2024.

Bathurst Regional Council requested an amendment to the Order relating to one event, the Bathurst 12 Hour, to extend the event period and change the name of the event to Bathurst SuperFest.

Public consultation on the draft Order was open from Monday 30 October 2023 to Friday 17 November 2023.

The revised Order was gazetted on Friday 8 December 2023 (located on pages 42-43).
