Sport and Recreation Recovery and Community Rebuild Package

The NSW Government’s Sport and Recreation Recovery and Community Rebuild Package will provide financial support, assistance and participation opportunities, particularly in areas hardest hit by the COVID lockdown. 

Community Sport Recovery Package
 

Grassroots Sport Fund: $12.45 million 

Following the success of the Grassroots Sport Fund in supporting grassroots sporting clubs and associations recover from COVID-19 restrictions and return to community sport in 2020grants of up to $1,000 will again be available to eligible clubs and associations affiliated with recognised State Sporting Organisations (SSOs) and State Sporting Organisations for People with Disability (SSODs). 

Funding received through the Grassroots Sport Fund will assist clubs and associations with fixed costs, irrecoverable costs incurred throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and return to sport costs as restrictions ease across NSW. Funding will be administered to clubs and associations via their respective SSO/SSOD, commencing in November 2021. 

Sport and Recreation Support: $7.8 million 

Up to $7.8 million will be provided to SSOs, SSODs, PCYC NSW, Surf Lifesaving NSW and YMCA NSW to support the operations of these organisations in enabling the recommencement of sport and recreation activities. 

The Office of Sport will directly contact these organisations to facilitate the application and funding process in November 2021.

Cross Border Sport Fund: $50,000 

The COVID-19 Cross Border Sports Fund will support NSW based clubs and associations that are affiliated with a state level sporting organisation or association recognised in another State/Territory, that are not eligible to receive funding under the Grassroots Sport Fund.  This is restricted to those clubs that are affiliated to an interstate organisation that is the equivalent of a SSO or SSOD recognised by the NSW Government. 

The Cross Border Sport Fund will open in November 2021.

Outdoor Active Recreation Marketing Support Fund: $1 million 

The Outdoor Active Recreation Marketing Support Fund aims to support the outdoor and active recreation sector during the recovery phase of the COVID-19 pandemic through providing funding to promote participation in outdoor and recreation activities throughout NSW. 

Organisations that are eligible to receive funding under the Grassroots Sport Fund, Cross Border Sport Fund, or Sport and Recreation Support initiatives will not be eligible to receive funding through the Outdoor Active Recreation Marketing Support Fund. 

Applications for Outdoor Active Recreation Marketing Support Fund will open later in 2021.

Participation initiatives focused on south-western Sydney and regional NSW: $3.1 million 

The NSW Government will invest up to $3.1 million to support a range of participation initiatives focused on areas most affected by restrictions, including south-western Sydney and regional NSW. 

These initiatives will be delivered by the Office of Sport and sport and recreation sector organisations, and will prioritise individuals or groups who traditionally have less access to physical activity opportunities. 

Further details about these initiatives will be announced in the coming months. 

Supporting regional athlete pathways: $600,000 

In the lead up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) will work with the Regional Academies of Sport Incorporated (RASi) to enhance athlete talent pathways and identification programs throughout NSW.
