North Shore Rowing Club will upgrade its boat storage and provide space for members to exercise off-water thanks to almost $620,000 in NSW Government funding.

Once completed, the project will enable the club to store up to 40 boats with direct water access to Lane Cove River.

The $950,000 project received funding during Round Two of the Greater Sydney Sports Facility Fund.

Member for Lane Cove Anthony Roberts congratulated North Shore Rowing Club on receiving the grant which will provide sporting infrastructure that will help keep the Lane Cove community healthy and active.

“Sport is a vital part of the Lane Cove community,” Mr Roberts said.

“The upgrade to North Shore Rowing Club will enable local residents to enjoy the benefits of regular activity and exercise in our beautiful surrounds on the Lane Cove River.”

Acting Minister for Sport Geoff Lee said the investment will continue the great legacy of one of Sydney’s oldest sporting organisations.

“It is vital people have accessible, safe and inclusive sports infrastructure in their communities,” Mr Lee said.

“The North Shore Rowing Club project includes the construction of disabled toilets and showers as well as additional female showers and toilets.

“Projects like this one will help boost sport across Greater Sydney and stimulate the economy through jobs and investment.”

North Shore rowing Club President, Richard Sheldrake AM said the facility upgrade will address a number of issues, including safety, and the ability for the Club to increase the involvement of girls in the physically demanding, but incredibly rewarding sport of rowing.

“The new exercise area will help the Club to increase the number of rowing machines on-site, enabling the off-water training program to grow and boost the fitness for our many members,” Dr Sheldrake said.

“Lane Cove Council has already approved the DA, and works should start on site in November, and be completed by June 2021. It is not an easy site for the builders, as all materials and equipment must be barged in.” Dr Sheldrake added.
