Future Champions
The NSW Government’s Future Champions strategy was launched in 2019 after extensive consultation with the sport sector. It focuses on helping foundational participants and emerging athletes build the knowledge, skills and wellbeing they need to reach their potential.
Future Champions positions NSW as a national leader in supporting the next generation of participants and athletes to become future champions both on and off the field.
The strategy relies on strong collaboration across the NSW sports system. State sporting organisations lead this work with support from schools, regional academies, clubs, coaches, parents, officials and service providers.
Future Champions aligns with the FTEM NSW Participant and Athlete Framework and the 3D‑Athlete Development model. It includes sixteen actions across six strategic drivers.
Phase One Action Plan
The achievements of the Future Champions Phase One Action Plan have laid the essential foundations for the strategy and created a lasting legacy for the NSW sports sector.
Future Champions Phase Two Action Plan
The Future Champions Phase Two Action Plan, to be released in 2026, will build on the strong foundations established in Phase One and continue shaping long‑term impact across the sector.
