The NSW Government has committed $6.7 million for the development of a new synthetic athletics track at Sydney Academy of Sport, Narrabeen.

Work on reinstatement of the Sydney Academy of Sport synthetic athletics track has commenced. The current project timeline follows:

The current project schedule anticipates construction completion and track reopening by the third quarter of 2026.

For safety reasons, no access to the existing track, infield or other amenities (e.g., grandstand, canteen etc.) will be permitted throughout the construction period.

The temporary six-lane 400 metre grass athletics track on Oval 1 will continue to be available until the synthetic track is reopened (pending weather, maintenance and general field conditions).

The designated throwing areas to the north-west of the athletics track site will remain operational throughout the construction period.

View our Facilities for casual recreational use page to find the opening times of the temporary athletics facilities including both the grass track and in-field area.

* All times are subject to change due to bookings, weather and track maintenance.

Please note, Oval 1 is used by multiple sports which can impact track availability. We ask that track users are respectful and understanding of other facility users and note that track availability may vary.
