The new athletics track will feature a World Athletics compliant synthetic athletics track complete with a new asphalt subbase, a moisture resilient track surface, improved stormwater drainage and supporting infrastructure.
The NSW Government has allocated $6.7million for the construction of a new synthetic athletics track at Sydney Academy of Sport.

The temporary six-lane 400 metre grass athletics track on Oval 1 will continue to be available to Little Athletics clubs, school sports carnivals, user groups and casual visitors.
The designated throwing and jump areas adjacent to the closed athletic track will remain open until further advised.

Please note, Oval 1 is used by multiple sports which can impact track availability. We ask that track users are respectful and understanding of other facility users and note that track availability may vary.
The designated throwing and jump areas adjacent to the closed athletics track can be used for the following field events:
- High Jump
- Long jump
- Triple jump
- Pole vault (must be booked through Athletes Corner)
- Shot put
- Discus
No bookings are required however training must be undertaken during the opening times listed above.
Casual users are advised to check temporary athletics facilities availability with the Sydney Academy of Sport before visiting. While the temporary facilities are in operation, there are no casual user fees.

Due to damage to the track surface making the track unsafe for use, Sydney Academy Athletics Track was closed in December 2023.
