With just a week to go until the first ball of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, Sydney is set for a T20 take over, with a number of fan activations taking place in the lead up to the Opening Match at Sydney Showground Stadium on Friday 21 February. Minister for Tourism Stuart Ayres encouraged everyone to get involved in what is set to be one of Australia’s most exciting sporting events.
“The T20 World Cup’s diverse culture, colour and comradery is set to truly come to life over the coming weeks, as NSW welcomes the start of what is set to be an electric World Cup series.
“Fans are invited to get a taste of the T20 action, with a free fan zone next week on the Sydney Opera House Forecourt, including the opportunity to get up close and personal with their Australian and Indian cricketing heroes as the State officially welcomes both teams,” Minister Ayres said.
Acting Minister for Sport Geoff Lee said there are four free Fan Zones and four match days across the city, culminating in the semi-final double header at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
“From Mount Druitt to Parramatta to Cronulla, bring the family down to one of our fabulous fan zones and experience the buzz around the T20 Women’s World Cup,” Mr Lee said.
“We are in the final countdown to the mouth-watering opening match between defending champions Australia and India, which is set to captivate millions of fans around the globe.’
As part of the NSW Government’s 10 world cups in 10 years, the T20 World Cup has a focus on accessibility for families and communities.
