Thousands of local cricketers are set to benefit from more than $6 million in grants now available through the NSW ICC World T20 Cricket Legacy Fund.

Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres has encouraged cricket clubs and councils across the state to apply for the 3-year program.

“This fund has been established to inspire the next generation of cricketers by improving the quality and quantity of community facilities and will help attract world-class cricket matches to regional NSW,” Mr Ayres said.

“The NSW Government is leading the way in its support of women’s sport in Australia and this fund will also improve participation pathways for female cricketers.

“We’re set to host more matches than any other host city for the ICC World T20 in 2020 which will generate more than $46 million in interstate and international visitor expenditure.”

The Chief Executive Officer of the ICC World T20 2020 Local Organising Committee Nick Hockley said: “Within NSW there will be 14 show-stopping matches across the Women’s and Men’s tournaments which will be broadcast to an estimated global audience of more than 1.5 billion viewers.”

“The NSW Government’s ICC World T20 2020 Legacy Fund will ensure that positive impacts are starting well ahead of the first ball bowled and I encourage councils and local cricket clubs to apply for projects which support participation in their region.”

Cricket NSW Chief Executive Officer Andrew Jones said: “With more girls and boys, women and men of all ages playing cricket across NSW than ever, the fund will both support this growth and leave a lifelong legacy for one of the biggest sporting events in the history of Australia.”

Applications close Friday 13 July 2018. More information at Office of Sport.
