From community sports clubs to State Sporting Organisations, hundreds of sporting groups across the state are set to benefit from more than $8.5 million in new sports funding announced today.

Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres today announced that sports groups and councils have successfully applied for funding for more than one thousand grassroots projects from three separate NSW Government Programs.

“This is all about making sure community sports across NSW have extra funds to manage their sports, enhance their facilities and make sport more accessible,” Mr Ayres said.

“Whether it is helping the Balgownie Football Club build spectator seating or upgrading the female change rooms at the Pennant Hills Demons Junior AFL Club, we want to make sure local clubs have a sporting chance to build the facilities they need.

“The Local Sport Grant Program has allocated funding for local clubs in 93 electorates across the state and has provided grants of between $5,000 - $50,000 to help local sports upgrade their facilities or create new ones.

“Two Sport Development Programs have also invested in initiatives that increase participation in community sport, support State Sporting Organisations and help attract events to NSW, such as the NSW Pro Surf Series 2018 and the Grafton to Inverell National Road Series Cycling Race.

“It is a key priority of the NSW Government that everyone has the opportunity to take part in local sport or has access to open space,” Mr Ayres said.

“Today’s announcement is in addition to the NSW Government’s $290 million Open Spaces and Green Sydney package announced last week and comes on top of $200 million that has been committed to improving sporting facilities in regional NSW.”

The next round of funding for sports clubs and codes facilitated through the Office of Sport opens in late 2018.
