The Office of Sport hosts a range of webinars and presentations to assist people from the sport and active recreation sector to understand their obligations in relation to Child Safety reporting, integrity and concerns.

Recognising and responding to abuse in sport workshop

This workshop sought to improve community sport volunteer and workers capabilities and motivations for recognising and responding to diverse types of abuse in sport. The workshop blended information and activities to engage the attendees in real world scenarios that promote shared experiences between sports.

Key elements of the workshop included:

  • What do diverse types of abuse in sport look like/what are the impacts
  • Self-assessments (through activities) of gaps in clubs/organisations' current response/management strategies (based on type of abuse)
  • What are the barriers to disclosures (for children) and to receiving disclosures (for the adults)
  • What does a trauma informed response look like for adults receiving disclosures from children
  • Best practice suggestions responding to abuse of children in sport.
