Nominations are now open for the Her Sport Her Way Awards which recognise and celebrate leaders striving to give women and girls more opportunities and equal access to participate in sport.

Acting Minister for Sport Geoff Lee said the NSW Government is committed to improving the participation of women in sport as players and leaders.

“We want to make female participation in sport part of everything we do as we inspire young girls to achieve their dreams on and off the field,” Mr Lee said.

“2020 has been an extremely challenging year with COVID-19, bushfires and drought affecting our community but the sports sector has been amazingly resilient.”

“During this tough time there have been leaders right across NSW who have been outstanding examples to young aspiring women in sport and we want to hear their stories.”

Minister for Women Bronnie Taylor said this year’s new Local Champion category will recognise an individual involved at club or community level sport for their contribution and commitment.

“This award is a fantastic way to highlight those incredible role models who work tirelessly to increase opportunities and recognition for women and girls in their communities,” Mrs Taylor said.

The other categories are Champion, Young Achiever, Outstanding Organisation and Trailblazers.

Inaugural Her Sport Her Way Champion Tiffany Slater who served as the NRL’s General Manager of Elite Women’s Programs, encouraged organisations to submit nominations for the awards.

“I was honoured to receive the inaugural Her Sport Her Way Champion Award at the Women in Sport Gala Dinner,” Ms Slater said.

“It’s a privilege to be able to play a role in contributing to the growth of women’s sport and gender equality. These awards provide valuable recognition for the work that goes on behind the scenes.”

Nominations are open until 14 January 2021. Winners will be announced in March 2021. More info at: https://www.sport.nsw.gov.au/her-sport-her-way-awards
